ipods or ituned-out

Okay, lets pretend for a second we have no mp3, ipods, cd walkmens or tape players(lol remember these things) anways, yeah i no is it hard for you to imagen a world without being plugged in!! Is it really that hard to have a conversation with a friends with out being plugged in.... Everytime I talked to someone they atlest have one earphone in and zoned into their own world, pretending their envolved in the conversation with the occasional "Yeah," "me too," or a smile and nodd. For me its like you would rather be plugged into this world that itunes have almost planed for you, brain washing everyone with their advertising of 10000 songs...is that it? Holy Crap I dont even think I know that many songs. Now they have many different colours your ipods can come in are you a blue person? No? okay how about green...try our new red!!
Now dont get me wrong its not like i never listen to ipods and i think their this horrible new peice of tech, im just saying does everyone need to be zoned out during say lunch when you have all your friends to keep you entertained?? Personally ipods are a great addition to the 2000th centery but isnt there a time and place to listen to them?

The cynical side of me wonders why society seems to be moving closer and closer to constant entertainment. There are way more TVs in restaurants, there are dvd players in cars, cellphones that play tv shows, etc etc. Are we working this hard to prevent people from thinking? What about a good old fashioned daydream? Even in my classes I find more and more protests of "this is sooo boring!." Life isn't really about being entertained 24/7, is it?

The less cynical side of me wonders what's so wrong with listening to music when you are bored? I was in an argument with a friend the other day about iPods in the grocery store. She couldn't believe that some people listen to their iPods while grocery shopping. She thinks it is so rude. Grocery shopping IS boring. Why not listen to some groovy tunes while while searching for the most succulent cantaloupe?

In conclusion: I love my PINK iPod - and I make sure to download classical music every so often, just to keep my brain stimulated.

See, I am a music junkee and I don't agree with anything you said about music being all about advertising. Music isn't about some kind of media advertising it's about what you love/hate/think... music is anything you want. Music is a universal connection to practically everybody else on the planet. Songs like Tommorow Starts Today, caring is creepy, bohemian like you, stolen, touchdown turnaround, sunday morning, starlight, the immigrant song, instantly gratified, set the fire to the third bar, a beautiful lie, black halo,Prelude 12/21, She is, the music, when we were golden, Here it goes again, my hero, fire, twenty century boy, I could go on for ages don't have advertisting. A lot of pop music does but that's just one kind of music. I don't have to be tuned in, but music is something I love so I keep tuned in a majority of the time... talking to friends, working on projects, anything. I don't see music as a form of entertainment all the time it can be when you are bored but there is just something about music that I am connected too. If i have a headache I can just turn on System of a down and it's gone. As someone once said "ipod therefore i am." that's what it comes down to for me.
